Rechargeable batteries

Also nown as rechargeable battery, storage battery or accumulator

Rechargeable batteries come in many different shapes and sizes, ranging anything from a button cell to megawatt systems connected to stabilize an electrical distribution network.

Several different combinations of chemicals are commonly used, including:

• lead–acid
• nickel cadmium (NiCd)
• nickel metal hydride (NiMH)
• lithium ion (Li-ion)
• lithium ion polymer (Li-ion polymer)

Rechargeable batteries have lower total cost of use and environmental impact than disposable batteries.

Some rechargeable battery types are available in the same sizes as disposable types.

Rechargeable batteries have higher initial cost, but can be recharged very cheaply and used many times.

A minority of devices do not correctly with rechargeable batteries due to their lower voltages. Rechargeble batteries may also not last as long as disposable batteries between charges. Rechargeable batteries will always have a much longer lifespan than disposable batteries.

Canon supplies rechargeable batteries that will provide the full 1.5 Volt per battery.

Battery sizes

Battery sizes include:

• AAA 1.5V (rechargeable are usually rated between 1.2 Volts and 1.3 Volts)
• AA 1.5 Volts (rechargeable are usually rated between 1.2 Volts and 1.3 Volts). AA batteries are also known as Penlight batteries
• PP3 9 Volts
• C 1.5 Volts (rechargebales not available, but AA to C-Cell converters may be available)
• D 1.5 Volts (rechargebales not available, but AA to D-Cell converters may be available). D-cell batteries are also known as Flashlight Batteries
• Lithium cells 3 Volts are round, button-type batteries. The metal can is the positive terminal, and the cap is the negative terminal.

Battery chargers for re-chargeable batteries

The battery charges will plug into an electrical socket or into a computers' or laptops' USB port. Charging times varies but it could take several hours to become fully charged.
