Troubleshooting Guide Troubleshooting for you new Stereoscopic glasses. Please refer to the instructions below for help before contacting us because most problems can be resolved by going through these steps. I. General information for Nvidia Video cards A. nVidia troubleshooting for Windows 98/ME B. nVidia troubleshooting for Windows 2000/XP C. Stereoscopic glasses setup and usage for Nvidia cards II. COMMON PROBLEMS AND FIXES: I. General Information for nVidia Cards There are two drivers you need to install on your compauter. The first driver is for the video card and the other is the nVidia 3D Stereo drivers. Install the video card drivers for your Nvidia card first to make sure you have the most up to date version. After you have succesfully installed the newest update to your video card drivers and restarted the computer you are ready to install the stereo driver. Install the stereo drivers and restart your computer. If you have any problems, refer to the detailed instructions below. Driver installation problems This step by step guide is available for download as a pdf file on our site here (315Kb). If you have Windows 98 or ME use the Detonator destroyer program at www.guru3d.com/files under the video card drivers for Nvidia cards. This program is used to delete any old traces of drivers on the system that weren't previously deleted. Once you have downloaded that, you must download the 2 other files on your computer. The first file to have on your computer is the Video card drivers (30.87). The second is the Stereo drivers version 30.87. Both are located at http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=3dstereo_30.87 Now that you have 3 files 1) Detonator Destroyer (used to remove old drivers) You can now start the clean install process. Use the Detonator Destroyer to remove the old files. When using the destroyer program you will be asked to go to add/remove programs located in the control panel. You will want to remove 2 files. The first is the Nvidia Display drivers, and the other is the Nvidia Stereo drivers. Then click the uninstall button on the destroyer program when it's open. Then restart. When your system boots and comes back on the desktop, just double click the 30.87 video card drivers and install those. It will prompt you for a restart. Then install the stereo 30.87 drivers and restart one final time. That will get you set up. Now, go to the control panel and double click Display. Click Settings and then Advanced. Find the Stereo Properties tab and hit the Enabled button. Then hit apply. Once you have done this everything should be set up properly. B. If you have Windows 2000/XP: You will need two drivers. The first file is the Video card drivers. One version is 30.87 located at http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=3dstereo_30.87 The 0.87 stereo drivers are at http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=3dstereo_30.87. Now that you have those 2 files: 1) Video card drivers This will get your system cleaned up. By having a clean install of the drivers you can ensure the best chance of getting it working properly. C. Stereoscopic Glasses Setup and Usage: For best gaming performance, you may find it useful to use a program called Enditall. You can find that program here http://home.ptd.net/~don5408/toolbox/enditall/. This will do a great job of ending tasks on your computer that you don't need. Use this before using the glasses to optimize performance. In order to set up the nVidia drivers go to your display properties (for more information see Appendix B). Click on the settings tab at the top. Click advanced. Click the Stereo Properties tab at the top. A screen for setting up your stereoscopic glasses will appear. Click the Enabled radio button and then hit Apply at the bottom. Next click on Stereo Test. A new window will come up where you can set your resolution and your refresh rate. Click Launch Test Application…Immediately after the test starts; hit the F6 key at the top of your keyboard to save that setting (If you do not hit the F6 key on your keyboard it will revert in to the lowest refresh rate and the screen will shake. This will be avoided by hitting F6 immediately after the nVidia test screen starts). Press the Esc key to leave of the test screen. Save the desired setting and click Close, then press ok and press ok again on the following screen. You are now ready to go! II. COMMON PROBLEMS AND FIXES: 1) The following section explains how to use the hotkeys to create a clear image: To change the way the image looks on the screen you should use the hotkeys. The first two hotkeys to try are ctrl + F3, and ctrl + F4. These will increase and decrease the separation between the 2 images on the screen. Once you feel comfortable with those you should try the convergence settings. To change those angles use ctrl + F5 and F6. You should try ctrl G and Alt G for gamma setting to increase your screen clarity as well. Other hotkeys such as ctrl + F2, ctrl + F11, and ctrl + T...to toggle the stereo on and off (use this to refresh any bad video as well). 2) If you are experiencing flickering: What is most likely happening is related to the system settings. Sometimes a monitor INF file will bring that on. Go to your control panel and double click on display. Then click on settings and finally advanced. You will see a monitor setting inside of there. If it's set to plug and play monitor it is set incorrectly. You should go to your monitor manufacturer’s website and download the latest driver files for your monitor. The file may be called an INF file. Make sure you go back to that monitor tab and click change monitor and specify that INF file that you download. Excessive flickering could also be due to the LC lens synchronization sequence. Press the sync reverse button on the sync box to see if the flickering is reduced. HzTool Once that is changed you should be in good shape. If for some reason the drivers are still retaining old information and the problem persists follow these directions...There is a good program called Hztool. The file is located here: http://hem.spray.se/doxx/ but it only works for windows 98 and ME. For XP, read the next section on XP refresh rates. To use this effectively just leave a check mark next to the resolution you care to use for the games. If only one check mark is chosen then in the stereo properties it will default to that minimum setting. If the first checkmark is all the way up at 1024x768 then it will be at that for the very lowest possible setting. When you finish, hit save in the bottom left. Then close the program. POWERSTRIP To fix any refresh rate problems in Windows 2000/XP you should use powerstrip. If you need the program just go to www.download.com and search for powerstrip, or check out the manufacturers website at http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm . Click on the PowerStrip icon way down on the right side in the "taskbar", next to the time. Choose Display profiles and Configure. Now you are in the profiles screen, the place where you can save your profiles and do some of the principal settings. Choose the resolution you want to optimize with the slider and press Apply to switch to it (you have to use the resolution you want to tweak). Press Advanced timing options... to get the next screen where you do the actual fine-tuning. The Advanced timing options page is where it all is happening. You simply increase the Refresh rate step-by-step until you get to the maximum Horizontal Scan rate your monitor can take. You can find out the exact Horizontal Scan rate that your monitor can handle in the Options -> Monitor Information page shown below to the right, to be sure that it is correct, double-check with your monitor documentation if possible. Simply click on either one of the indicated places, Horizontal Scan rate or the Refresh rate until you get close to the maximum value. If you cross the limit, the screen will turn black and stay black (automatic shutdown), don't worry, press Backspace (erase) that works like an undo and takes you one step back. If you are worried, press Escape and PowerStrip jumps to the previous page without any of the new modifications. Press OK and you'll get back to the Display Profiles page, press Save as... to save your new setting. If you want to, you can also get a shortcut on the Windows desktop, but all your settings are accessible from the PowerStrip icon and then the Display profiles (see image 1). Do the same thing all over again for other resolutions that you want to run at the best possible refresh rate. Direct3D and OpenGL applications will now use the new refresh rates. If it for some reason does not work, check/press the Brute force standard refresh rate button (image 3) in the advanced timing options page for PowerStrip to force everything to use your new settings. This will fix the rate at which the screen refreshes. Just go in to the stereo setup and test program and change the refresh rate. This will allow the screen to become perfectly clear. If you are having problems getting your stereoscopic glasses to work, what you need to do is alter your software so that it works with your system. The first thing that should be done is to try a different video card driver version for your system. We want to alter those files in order to get the system to work properly. Each system works better with different drivers, so it’s best to try a few different choices. 3) If you glasses won’t turn on at all. The most likely cause is that the power at the sync box is off. Check to see if power is on at the mains (red light on the wall plug converter is on), and then check that power at the sync box is on. The power light on the sync will be on even if the box is off - this light indicates power to the box and not that the sync box is actually on. 4) A game doesn’t work. Not all 3D games work with LC Glasses, even though the vast majority do work. Please view the nVidia site for updates and patches for games that get released. The games that are suppose to work with the glasses but do not may be corrected by following these procedures. The first is to simply set your resolution and refresh rate down. Try to start the game with the stereo settings to automatically ON, and then try enabled only by hotkey (ctrl + T). This will allow you to start the game up without stereo and hit ctrl T when the game has started and is past all the setup screens. Next is to try to reinstall the game. If one game isn't working properly, it's best just to try a reinstall so that it will write over any files that were corrupted. Make sure you uninstall the game first, then reinstall it right back on after you restart your computer. Some games run in full screen mode and windowed mode. Make sure the game is running in full screen mode. Most games will allow you to go to full screen mode by holding down Alt and pressing enter. Appendix A: To remove a program from you system double click the My Computer icon on your desktop. Double click the Control Panel icon. Double click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
