Steps for usage:

0-9: valid numbers for password, * cancel, # finish

  1. Install the hard disk, connect the data cable to the USB port on the computer, and press and hold the "1" and "3" buttons for 5 seconds at the same time;
  2. The red and green lights are on, then press the "*" button for 10 seconds to light up the orange light;
  3. After entering the new password twice (each time the password is ended with the “#” key), the green and blue lights are on;
  4. Open the computer disk manager, initialize the new disk, create a simple volume and format.
  5. Tips: If the thickness of your hard disk is below 9mm, please add the EVA shock pad added by our product to prevent the hard disk from shaking during use.

The drive keeps "locking" even though it is still showing as "Unlocked" (cannot access folders or it requests admin permissions, but still cannot access the files)

The drive "locks" after a time-out of no data access, but it still shows that it is unlocked. This is a result of an operating system option to save power. This does not work as intended with encrypted drives.

Disable the option that allows external drives to "switch off to save power"

  1. In Device Manager, expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
  2. Right click on "USB Mass Storage Device" and click on Properties.
  3. Under the Power Management tab, uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

When working on the drive:

  1. press * each time you have finished accessing the files (Lock drive with keypad)
  2. Remove and re-insert into USB port if the drive "locks up" and you cannot access files (no data access time-out)

You may install a "Keep Alive" app if it keeps disconnecting.

Q&A

  1. Can I recover data if I forget my password / PIN?
    No, this is not possible. Your data will be lost.
  2. Can I use the drive again if I forget my password / PIN?
    Yes, you can still re-use the drive. You will need to reset your password / PIN, but your data will be lost.
  3. What can I do if there is a problem with the device, but the drive is still fine and I still have data on it?
    You can still access your data by replacing the faulty enclosure with the same type of enclosure with the same firmware.
  4. Can an encrypted drive be accessed in a PC?
    No, your data cannot be read in a PC / laptop. You can re-format the drive and re-use the drive as a standard drive, but your data will be lost.
  5. What can I do to prevent losing my data if the drive fails/ I forget my password / PIN?
    We recommend doing regular backups onto a secure encrypted cloud service such as Amazon S3 or S3 Glacier.
