External RAID Drives.
External RAID drives consist of one device (usually a server) that has two or more drives inside it. These RAID drives deliver higher performance, better security, data redundancy, and larger drive capacities than is possible with standard external drives.
RAID (redundant array of independent disks; originally redundant array of inexpensive disks) is a way of storing the same data in different places on multiple hard disks to protect data in the case of a drive failure (redundancy). However, not all RAID levels provide redundancy but only offer better performance or increased capacity, or both.
This means that you can connect two or more drives to provide: better speed, higher capacities by combining the drives together, data redundancy by writing data across drives that makes it possible to recover data if one of the drives fail, or a combination of the above.
