Electrical power generator for Load Shedding and power outagesIn electricity generation, a generator is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy for use in an external circuit.Electrical generators for domestic use is usually petrol powered and a tank of petrol is usually capable of running a full day or more, depending on the load it has to carry (how many electrical products are connected to it and how much power they draw). Very large generators can supply power to households without too many problems. A medium - large home generator (5.5KVA+) is capable of powering most electrical devices including fridges, washing machines, electric irons, and kettles. A medium - low generator (2.5KVA+) is capable of supporting fewer electrical devices but it is still capable of powering a fridge or lawn mower. It is also capable of powering domestic air conditioners (1000W). Small generators are only recommended for single products that require electricity in remote locations, such as power tools (drilling machines for example). Generators are susceptible to dips when appliances are switched on and off and a constant connection of equipment is recommended.
