About this licence

For use with Dell servers

This licence is intended for installation on Dell server hardware and is supplied as a Reseller Option Kit (ROK). It is tied to the specific hardware and cannot be transferred freely to non-Dell servers or reused outside of its hardware arrangement. The licence covers the Standard edition of Windows Server 2022 and licences up to 16 processor cores.

The ROK licence requires appropriate Dell server hardware and is typically pre-installed or delivered alongside a qualifying Dell server purchase. It may not include separate media or product key packaging in the same way as retail boxed licences.

Use Case

This licence is intended for companies or IT departments deploying a Dell PowerEdge or other supported Dell server platform and wishing to use Windows Server 2022 Standard edition on up to 16 cores. Example: If your server has up to a total of 16 processor cores (for example 2 x 8-core CPUs, or 1 x 16-core CPU) then this licence covers that capacity. If your server has more than 16 processor cores you may require additional licences or cores blocks to fully comply.

Important notes

ROK Licensing: ROK licences are OEM-style licences tied to specific eligible Dell hardware and are not transferable to other non-Dell servers once installed.

No Media/Key: As a ROK kit, this licence may not come with full retail packaging or installation media in the traditional form; deployment is usually via Dell’s deployment tools and lifecycle controller.

Region-Specific: Ensure the licence is valid for your region (South Africa or applicable region) and that you purchase from authorised Dell distribution to ensure compliance.

FAQ

Q: Can I install this licence on non-Dell server hardware?
A: No. As a ROK licence tied to Dell hardware, installation on non-Dell servers is generally not permitted under the licence terms.

Q: What if my server has more than 16 cores?
A: If your server uses more than 16 processor cores you will likely need additional core licences or a higher edition so that all cores are covered in compliance with Microsoft licensing rules.

Q: Does this licence include CALs (Client Access Licences)?
A: No. This licence covers only the server operating system for up to 16 cores. You may still need separate CALs for users/devices connecting to the server depending on your scenario.
